How to Stay Cool in the Summer
How to Stay Cool in the Summer
Above all, the longevity of this British heatwave is perplexing us Brits. Because we don't usually store our umbrellas for the summer, many of us are unsure what to do with such a lengthy period of hot weather and sunshine, and we've almost forgotten what rain is. While we shouldn't complain about enjoying a true summer, we are finding it difficult to handle. Here are a few pointers to help you get through to the familiar warmth of autumn.
Keep yourself hydrated.
Let's start with the obvious: in such hot weather, drinking plenty of water is the most vital thing you can do. Many people are fainting without notice as a result of the high temperatures, so stay hydrated to avoid this. Keep sipping because dehydration is a major cause of headaches and can lead to a lack of concentration, so keep sipping!
Indoor Activities to Enjoy
We want to go on endless park picnics and outdoor strolls because the weather is so nice. We don't want to discourage you from doing so, but it's a good idea to think about how much time you spend in the sun (especially if you have children with you) and keep it to a safe, reasonable quantity. Try to discover some entertaining indoor activities that are available in well-ventilated settings as an alternative. An indoor swimming pool is a terrific way to keep the kids active when playing in the sun is a little too much.
Meals that are served cold
While we enjoy our roast dinners, they may seem a little too heavy in this hot weather, and those trapped in the kitchen making them will not have much fun. In this heat, cold meats, salads, and plenty of fruit make a suitable staple diet. To add some carbohydrates, simply bake some bread buns or some jacket potatoes in the oven; anything that prevents you from spending too much time slaving over a hot stove!
Drinks that are cold
Because one is necessary and the other is simply a treat, this point is intentionally separated from staying hydrated. Why not spend your lunch break filling out one or two of our paid surveys so you can justify going to the pub for an ice cold beer or cocktail after work? It will help you get through the long, hot hours and will be a welcome relief at the end of the day.
Whether you're out enjoying the sunshine or sitting as near to the air conditioning unit as physically possible, do everything you can to be healthy during this heat wave and try to enjoy the feeling of a true summer!
